Taiwan Architecture Magazine|Vol.332, May 2023 Feature
Founded in 1995, Taiwan Architecture Magazine has long served as a key witness and chronicler of architectural and spatial design development in Taiwan. More than just a periodical, it has documented the nation’s evolving creative landscape while offering in-depth perspectives on the cultural and environmental contexts that shape architectural practice. Over the decades, it has become a trusted reference for architects, designers, and enthusiasts alike.
In its May 2023 issue (Vol.332), The Wandering Walls was honored to be featured. The article highlighted how this eco-retreat, situated on the coastal plateau of Hengchun facing the Taiwan Strait, draws inspiration from the surrounding landscape, climate, and materiality. With its deep gray exposed-concrete walls and distinctive curved façades, the project embodies both raw simplicity and a poetic connection with the environment.
From its iconic walls designed to embrace the strong seasonal winds, to the shifting play of light and shadow across its interiors, the feature emphasized how The Wandering Walls creates a constant dialogue between architecture and nature. This recognition not only affirms the vision of its architect but also reinforces the inn’s position as a meaningful contribution to Taiwan’s contemporary architectural landscape.
