At Ocean Blue, memories of travel are not only seen, but also heard.
Hanging on the wall is a handcrafted Swiss cowbell, brought back by the host from the Alps. A reminder of distant mountain landscapes, it finds a new connection to Hengchun, a place shaped by the powerful seasonal Luoshan winds.
Closer to home, handwoven shell ginger mats, crafted by a Paiwan artisan, lie beside the bed. Each morning, before bare feet meet the cool concrete floor, they first touch the warmth of natural fibres. Clothes hang from a branch of native Taiwan Ebony, bringing the textures of Hengchun into everyday life.
The textiles are by Thai designer Sarinya Lim (SRINLIM), whose work has received both the Red Dot Design Award and Good Design Award. Blue bed runners and cushions echo the sea and sky beyond the windows, while touches of orange recall the last light of sunset along the horizon.

Crate & Barrel drinkware accompanies house-roasted, natural-process drip coffee from Guji, Ethiopia, and Baozhong tea from Pinglin, the hometown of the host’s mother.
A complimentary minibar includes house-made sparkling water, selected beer, Taiwanese plum shochu, juice and cola, alongside a marine-inspired home fragrance from Thailand.
From the Shores of Hengchun to a City 80 Kilometres Away
Located on the third floor and facing northwest, Ocean Blue opens onto sweeping views of the Taiwan Strait.
Without leaving the room, you can gaze toward the horizon from the comfort of your bed or while soaking in the bathtub. As the seasons and prevailing winds change, so does the landscape beyond.
- Summer | Beyond the Horizon
When southwesterly winds bring clear skies and good visibility, the view may extend all the way to Kaohsiung, approximately 80 kilometres away. The distant silhouettes of the 85 Sky Tower, China Steel headquarters, Xiaoliuqiu Island, and large cargo ships approaching Kaohsiung Harbour may all become part of the same panorama.
- Winter | Lights Across the Sea
During the northeasterly monsoon season, distant landmarks often fade into the daytime haze. Yet after dark, when conditions allow, the lights of Kaohsiung and Xiaoliuqiu may emerge along the far edge of the dark sea, shimmering like stars on the horizon.
